On a call to my bank 2 mins ago:
Call centre chick: "Since you've only been there a year could I take your previous address please?"
Me: "Yeah, it's XX st., Townsville, UK"
ccc: "Oh, you've spent some time in the UK?"
Me: "I'm bloody British love"
ccc: "Oh. Sorry, from your voice I thought you were from West Australia or Northern Territory..."
GNAGH!!!!!! Thank fuck I'm going back to the UK so I can get proper voice back.
I'm going to sulk quietly in the corner now....
At least S says I sound pom.....

HA! I read the last sentence as "At least S says I sound porn"... and i wondered whachubeenupto... and then I realized (a) I have teh sex on teh brain and (b) I don't read so good.
aw! does that mean you're going to sound more english that you did when you lived in england? i know a few immigrants scots who have stronger brogues than a highlander in a pub.
He can soundlike Porn i guess... but more upper class because of the british accent :P

Another vote for the Pom / Porn misreading :).
Maybe you could interject "What Ho!" or "Wotcher", depending on the impression you mean to give, at regular intervals in every conversation.
You'll certainly sound Australian to us, I'm afraid.
vuboq: Nout wrong with sex on the brain. It has to do with being male I think - it's an afflition we suffer from :)
dykewife: I'll get rid of the twang quickly enough when I'm surrounded by poms. Not swearing in front of my family or using aussie slang will be a seperate drama though...
