Double take

Random ramblings of a British guy that's moved to Australia. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's sad, sometimes it's confusing. But that's cos it's all about true life my friends.

Good News

G'day people,

Was planning to update today but I've left my posts on the computer at work and refuse to re-write them when anoher day wont make the difference after a month. Tomorrow. But as it happens I have more news for today anyway which explains a little of my laxness.

During my last week in the UK my father woke up one morning with a strange lump on his shoulder/neck. Concerned, my mother insisted he went to the Docs. He was told to go to the hospital for a blood test which was due while i'd be flying back.

After this they asked him back to take a biopsy sample a week later. This was of course worrying news. Another restless week passed and he called with the news I'd been dreading. It was a secondary level cancer and they needed to identify the primary cancer and it's extent as soon as possible. They had a suspicion and needed to get more blood tests done as soon as possible.

Within a day they had confirmed prostrate cancer but another 5 restless days passed before he could get a CAT scan to identify the extent of the problem.

It's been a rather stressful 2.5 weeks I've been back. Wondering all the time how my sensitive family are coping since they can hide emotions from 10000 miles away. I've been wonderin whether I would need to give up my job and house to return to the uk for an extended period. Finally we've had the good news that although it cannot be cured there is a very strong chance that so long as he responds to the treatment to stem the flow of testosterone around the body it will be controllable in a scale measurable in years rather than months or weeks.

So there is a huge feeling of relief here at Chez Jay. Work have been awesome, as have my neighbours and the very few people I've told in the blogosphere. My apologies for not mentioning this earlier but I couldn't hande questions when all I wanted was answers myself.

As good news and bad have a tendency to arrive with suitable timing to cancel one another out it was no suprise that my ute blew it's o-ring or something on the way to work and started belching smoke and steam out of the exhaust at an alarming rate. This did cause abolute mayhem behindme though so despite the fun i was having I decided to limp it home and borrow a friends car to take to work.

Mechnically minded people in the workshop say I must work out whether it's steam or smoke being emitted and then they can help advise me on the best course of action but it all sounds rather expensive.

BUT - Choose:

a) Be upset cos your ute blew up
- or -
b) Be very happy about the news that your father is gonna keep going for a few years yet after a big cancer scare

Yep. Fuck the ute. Money cannot buy the most valuable things :)
